LG Infinia 55LW6500 Review

55LW6500 ReviewsHey, Mike here. And you’re reading my uncensored LG Infinia 55LW6500 Review, including everything I’ve learned about this flat panel television and passive 3D HD TV.

Note that this is a review though. If you’re looking for a link to the LG Infinia 55LW 6500, you can find it through Amazon by clicking here.

Why am I writing this? Well, I was thinking about buying the LG Infinia 55LW6500 HDTV, but there weren’t many real, comprehensive reviews around. So I thought I’d write one quickly to help anyone who was in the same position I was.

But be warned — I’ll try to cover the good and bad points. So if that’ something you may not want to hear, then you may as well leave now.

lg infinia reviewsFirst of all, the LG Infinia 55LW6500 TV looks sharp. The slim, sleek black frame is trimmed in silver with softly contoured corners and houses an edge-to-edge 55 inch single pane of glass. This seamless flat glass panel will provide an eye-catching focal point to your living room, family room, or your media/theater viewing area.

What sold me though was the 3D. The LG Infinia 55LW6500 uses LG Cinema 3D — a passive 3D TV technology — which allows the viewer to wear inexpensive, comfortable and lightweight 3D glasses. This is a tremendous improvement to the heavier, more costly battery-powered shutter glasses required by many 3D TV’s. The LG Infinia 55LW6500 includes 4 pairs of glasses with each unit, so your friends and your entire family can enjoy clear, sharp and realistic LG Infinia 3D entertainment right away.

Here are a few more stand-out features that impressed me about this LG Infinia TV:

1080p resolutionThe 3D Light Booster in the LG Infinia 55LW6500 produces a brighter picture that is more vibrant than comparable conventional 3D flat screen televisions. LED-Plus technology gives amazingly vivid and crisp colors with excellent contrasts because of state-of-the-art LED backlighting. Local dimming technology lets you see the deepest black and the richest color, all with beautiful clarity and detail, while still providing energy-savings when compared to other LED LCD TVs.

passive 3dThis unit delivers full HD1080p resolution, nearly twice the pixel rendering of standard definition units. This means that the LG 55Lw6500 can show you brilliant color, detail and stunningly superior picture quality.  The 1080p specs alone make this unit a thing of beauty.

I found that TruMotion 240Hz technology makes the LG Infinia 55LW6500 flat panel television perfect for viewing sporting events, your favorite video games and Hollywood high-speed action sequences. The TruMotion processor offers faster image response time so it can handle all the action with smoother transitions between frames.

No Ultimate LG Infinia 55LW6500 Review would be complete without a look at the pros and cons of this TV.

Pros

  • Inexpensive, lightweight and comfortable glasses are all that’s needed for a complete and realistic 3D experience (and 4 glasses are provided with purchase of this television)
  • LG Cinema delivers vibrant and exciting 3D from almost any viewing angle.
  • LED-Plus technology produces excellent clarity, detailed colors and vivid contrasts.
  • Sporting events, video gaming and high-speed action sequences are rendered with essentially no blurring of motion.
  • This unit’s WiFi features make access to Smart TV content easy to stream and utilize.

Cons

  • The only audio output is an optical output. This shouldn’t be an issue if you’re connecting to a newer model home theater or sound system. If you have a sound system with no optical input, you’ll need to purchase a stereo adapter for around $25, then connect to a coax cable to transfer the sound signal.
  • Navigating with the “magic remote” may take a bit of practice. However, if you’ve used a motion-sensitive device (like the Wii remote, for example), then you’ll probably already be familiar with this type of navigation process.

LG Infinia 55LW6500 Reviews

Here’s what new owners are saying about the LG Infinia HDTV:

I purchased my flat panel television on a budget and wasn’t actually expecting to get outstanding 3D. This unit has excellent, top-of-the-line quality of pictures. Without paying for more expensive flat screen tvs with faster refresh times, I can’t understand how your picture could be any more amazing. If you have a bit of technical know-how, this should be a good TV for you. I recommend this set to everyone who wants a well-priced 3D HDTV and feel that this was an excellent buy and value.

–  Travis K.

The more I watch it, the more I love it.  This TV has truly amazing quality of picture in regular viewing, Hi-Def or passive 3D, it’s spectacular.  I have noticed light ghosting toward the edges when the screen should be completely dark and black but the LG resources I have consulted say this is to be expected.

The only drawback is the sound of this system.  You have only 10 watts in each speaker and they face toward the wall the unit is mounted on.

Still the custom features available with this unit are mind-boggling and the LG 3D Cinema is absolutely breathtaking.  I could not be more pleased.

–  Daniel L.

I bought this HDTV because of good reviews I’d read about it. This was an upgrade from an older model LCD projection set I had. In my opinion, TruMotion gives a distorted picture motion. I’d advise that you disable this feature immediately. Additionally I’ve noticed some lag time during my PS3 games. After googling this, I learned that this common problem can easily be solved by switching the television to “game mode”.

All in all, this TV has a great picture and great passive 3D. It may not be the very best set money can buy, but if you don’t want to pay top price, this set is the best TV for you.

–  Troy F.

Any Angle Viewing

Finally, I really like the fact that, by using LG Cinema 3D glasses, the 55LW6500 will give you crisp and vivid 3D from almost any angle, which is a BIG advancement in 3D viewing technology.

55LW6500 Reviews from Owners

55lw6500 reviewsAny 55LW6500 Review should include feedback and comments from LG Infinia 55LW6500 owners. This article compiles owner pros and cons, in their own words. Then we’ll conclude with a sampling of specific questions owners have asked about operating and enjoying their LG Infinia 55LW6500 HDTV.

Pros

  • 3D viewing angle of the 55LW6500 is amazing
  • 2D picture is absolutely amazing
  • Blacks are very black and the colors are vivid
  • Picture setup is very easy
  • Sound quality is quite good
  • For the money this is a better buy than the sony I use to be a sony customer but I’m happy I bought this 3D TV.
  • The colors are extremely vivid and excellent contrast on this LG model.
  • The picture is extremely sharp.
  • Viewing angle quite wide
  • Very simple to set-up
  • Wonderful, rich colors and dark blacks
  • Passive 3D works much better than I expected, excellent picture quality.
  • Color warmer then Samsung, options
  • Ease of use. One button touch 2d to 3d on any program
  • Easy to activate with wireless plug in provided
  • Excellent viewing angle.
  • Light glasses.
  • Excellent picture quality. Absolutely no flicker.
  • Price: less than Sony, Samsung or Sharp
  • Matte screen – no reflection issues!
  • Local dimming – a feature not offered on competitors TVs at this price (if you don’t know what that is, Google it!)
  • Passive 3D – glasses are nearly free
  • Filmed 3d shows great, don’t believe the lower resolution stuff about passive 3d vs active 3d. Passive 3d fools your brain and you *SEE* 3d HD and it looks great.
  • Great viewing angles if you have a lot of people in your family like me
  • More on the first point LG glasses are only $19 for 2, but active glasses at my Best Buy are over $100 for one pair and the guy at the store said the active TVs only come with one pair
  • Wide viewing angle
  • Cheap glasses this was a big one for me as I had to buy 6 pairs, would have cost me $720 to buy the same amount in high quality active glasses.
  • Being able to watch TV while lying down on the couch, I have a bad back so this was great.55lw6500 reviews
  • Great TV for the price – It’s not worth to pay $800 more for competitors as they are so close in features

Cons

  • The picture is somewhat jittery when you have the TruMotion turned on- even on the low setting
  • Intelligent sensor is way to sensitive resulting in a dark picture.
  • Some of the Smart TV features are useless.
  • Very small and minor picture flaws visible when in Vivid or bright mode.
  • The auto power saving dimmer on tv really darkened screen when lights turned low
  • Black levels are a bit low (ie, no black enough) where local dimming just can’t adjust enough but it’s rare to notice this
  • TruMotion (240Hz) creates distortion around image edges in many cases – though pretty much all of the TVs I’ve seen do some of this
  • Apps outside the premium advertised ones (facebook, vudu, amazon, youtube, etc) are bad, but hear this is true across the board for TVs.
  • Wish there was a way to attach a keyboard.
  • Could not be happier with it, none
  • No cons to really speak of.

Owner Questions & Answers

I just recently bought the LG 55LW6500 TV. What AUDIO RECEIVER and SPEAKERS should I get? Any recommendations?

Btw, I don’t know if this information is important but I will be using a PS3 to watch blu rays with my current setup. I would like to spend under a grand for both items if possible. I am currently looking at the Onkyo TX-NR609 for the receiver and the Bose Acoustimass 6 Series III for the speakers. Any advice is welcome~

Best Answer

As the others have pointed out, Bose SUCKS. Google -Bose sucks-, and you will have all the evidence that you might want to that truth.

Next, you can get some good deals on Polk speakers through Amaz*n.com, such as Monitor 50 floor-standing speakers for $100 each, Monitor 30 bookshelf speakers for $125 a pair, a PSW10 sub for $100, and a CS10 center speaker for $130. That’s $555 for a 5.1 set of speakers, leaving you about $445 for a receiver. Your chosen receiver comes from Vann’s for $377 including shipping. Total $922, and the remaining $78 would be good for speaker wires, a sub cable and any other connectors that you need.

Can any 3D glasses be used to watch 3D LG 55LW6500?

Best Answer

LW6500 uses polarized 3D glasses. They can be used on ANY passive 3D TV. In fact what is good about it is that the package comes with four of these 3D glasses which are far more economical in that they use no battery, and are cheaper than other 3D glasses.

I have a 3D TV but nothing ever pops out!?
I have 3d on, and i have a 3d blue ray player with a 3d hdmi cable. I watched movies such as transformers 3 but nothing popped out. It looked more as if it was in a box. I have an LG 55LW6500
